Once the application for a Global Geopark is successful, is it once and for all?
Timer:2024-05-28
No. The name of a Global Geopark is valid for only four years at a time. Each park should undergo a re-evaluation once every four years to thoroughly review its functions and quality. If this geopark consistently meets the corresponding standards, it will continue to serve as a Global Geopark (with the so-called "green card") in the next four years. If this geopark no longer meets the standards, the management institution of the geopark will be informed to take appropriate rectification measures within two years (obtaining the so-called "yellow card"). After receiving a "yellow card", if the geopark fails to meet the standards within two years, it will lose its status as a Global Geopark (obtaining the so-called "red card").
