Good News! Zhijindong Cave Global Geopark Awarded UNESCO Green Card Certification

On April 27, 2026, the Handover of Certificates to the New UNESCO Global Geoparks and Revalidations starting in 2026 was held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France. At 21:48 Beijing Time (16:48 local time in France), Zhijindong Cave Global Geopark delivered an online presentation on park development and management during the ceremony. Subsequently, the geopark was officially granted the UNESCO Green Card Certification for the 2026–2029.

In accordance with the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council Statutes and Operational Guidelines and the Global Geopark Management Measures, all Global Geoparks are required to undergo revalidation every four years. From June 30 to July 4, 2025, UNESCO dispatched an evaluation team consisting of two experts: Nick Powe from the United Kingdom and Koki Nagata from Japan. The team conducted an on-site assessment covering geoheritage conservation, boundary adjustment, scientific research and popular science education, ecological conservation and other key fields, and fully recognized the remarkable achievements of the geopark in construction and management.

Taking the successful renewal of Green Card certification as a new starting point, Zhijindong Cave Global Geopark will continue to uphold the philosophy of Celebrating Earth Heritage, Sustaining Local Communities, strive to build the Geopark as a model for the integration of karst geological ecology and ethnic culture, and achieve the sustainable development of geological resource protection and local economic society.
